Synopsis: FBI agent Declan Grey is in the chase of his life–but isn’t sure exactly what he’s chasing after. Threatened by a terrorist that “the wrath is coming,” Grey fears something horrible is about to be unleashed on American soil. When his investigation leads him to a closed immigrant community, he turns to Tanner Shaw to help him. She’s sought justice for refugees and the hurting around the world, and if there’s anyone who can help him, it’s Tanner.
Tanner Shaw has joined the FBI as a crisis counselor . . . meaning she now has more opportunity to butt heads with Declan. But that tension also includes a spark she can’t deny, and she’s pretty sure Declan feels the same. But before anything can develop between them, they discover evidence of a terror cell–and soon are in a race against the clock to stop the coming “wrath” that could cost thousands their lives.
My Thoughts: This is book 3 in the Chesapeake Valor series. I read the first 2 books and was eager to pick this one up. Each story focuses on a man in a group of childhood friends who all work together in the FBI. This story focuses on Declan, a serious and tough agent with a gentle heart. I enjoyed getting to know Declan better and seeing his relationship grow with Tanner.
I adore the characters in this book. If I were able to choose a group of fictional characters to “hang out” with, I would choose these characters. Each one of them loves Jesus, live lives of integrity, and are always there for each other. They also manage to have fun despite the dangers they face.
The mysteries in this book were intriguing. One of the mysteries was carried over from book 2 and the other one began and was resolved in this book. I liked this aspect because it left me wanting more but didn’t end on such a cliffhanger that I felt unsatisfied when the book was over.
I really enjoy Dani’s writing. I find myself flying through the pages and riding along on the adventures while on pins and needles, because of the suspense.
The faith content in this book is also great. The characters let their lights shine and “walk the walk”.
I highly recommend this book for fans of suspense and thrillers.
I received this book from Bethany House Publishers to review.
